Coordinated Attacks: Over 50 to 70 arson, bombing, and incendiary attacks rocked Thailand’s deep southern provinces (Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala) late in August, injuring several people and destroying local government properties and vehicles.
All non-essential travel to Thailand‘s four southernmost border provinces—Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and parts of Songkhla—is strongly discouraged due to a severe escalation in insurgent violence. Over August 22–23, 2026, a coordinated wave of at least 51 to 75 bomb explosions, arson attacks, and shootings targeted local administrative offices, convenience stores, and infrastructure across 21 districts. This spike in violence has led to heightened security measures, emergency decrees, and temporary curfews, resulting in a sharp decline in cross-border traffic with Malaysia.
