Thailand has selected MANG x DAOU to represent the country at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia, following their victory in Thailand’s Chosen One on Sunday, 27 September. Their winning song, “Aroma,” will become Thailand’s first entry in the competition, which the country will also host. The national selection was organised by broadcaster Channel 3.
The duo emerged from a field of ten competing acts. D Gerrard and GAM WICHAYANEE joined them in the announced top three before the winner was revealed, bringing Thailand’s search for its debut representative to a close.
A showcase beyond one sound
Although T-pop takes centre stage in the winning partnership, the selection offered a broader introduction to Thailand’s contemporary music scene. The lineup included rock band RETROSPECT, R&B-pop duo JMNK, pop-soul band JETSET’ER, and singer-songwriters including MONICA and ZOM MARIE. That variety gave the competition a wider musical identity than a straightforward pop showcase.
From an editorial perspective, this breadth is one of the selection’s strengths. A national final can do more than choose a representative: it can encourage audiences to explore artists they might otherwise never encounter. Bringing contrasting musical styles into the same competition creates that opportunity, even for performers who do not take the winning spot.
How Thailand made its choice
The result combined three voting components: 40% from a professional jury, 40% from viewers in Thailand and 20% from international viewers. The show was available domestically on Channel 3 and internationally through the Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel.
The format is notable for balancing domestic audience choice with professional assessment, while giving overseas listeners a meaningful role. In principle, that allows a national selection to consider both local connection and international appeal—two qualities that do not necessarily produce the same favourite.
However, winning this combined vote should not be treated as proof that an entry will win the wider competition. It establishes the national selection result, not a forecast of how a different field of songs and audiences will respond.
The partnership behind “Aroma”
MANG is LIT Entertainment’s first female solo artist, while DAOU brings experience as a singer, actor and presenter, alongside his first-place finish in the talent competition LazIcon. Eurovision’s official artist introduction highlights MANG’s vocal strength and Thai-inflected T-pop identity as part of the pairing’s appeal.
Their selection puts a collaboration, rather than a solo performer or established band, at the centre of Thailand’s debut. The creative question now is how that partnership can develop into a performance that feels distinctive and immediately understandable to viewers discovering both artists for the first time.
Bangkok prepares for the international final
The first Eurovision Song Contest Asia is scheduled for Saturday, 14 November 2026, at One Bangkok Forum, with 11 countries participating. The event will be presented by Woody Milintachinda and Cindy Bishop, whose appointments were announced on 25 September.
For Thailand, hosting and competing creates a dual opportunity: to introduce its selected artists and to provide a meeting point for music from across the participating countries.
The most useful way to judge this first national selection is therefore not simply to ask whether it has found a future champion. It is also to ask whether it can turn a competition appearance into sustained interest in the artists behind it.
“Thailand’s Chosen One” has chosen its entry. The next challenge is turning that national victory into an international connection.
